Departments and their functions in rooms division
Rooms division contains seven departments which are classified as front office, reservations, housekeeping, concierge, guest services, security and communications.

Front Office
It is the hub or nerve center of the hotel. It is responsible to sell and up-sell rooms, maintain balanced guest accounts and offer services such as handling mail, faxes, messages, and local and hotel information.


Reservations 
Reservations Department involves the important first contact between the guest and the hotel. An effective reservations process involves matching room requests with room availability, recording, confirming, and maintaining reservations, and producing management reports. To achieve the satisfactory level, exceeding guest expectations when they make reservations is the goal of this department.



Housekeeping
Housekeeping Department is the largest department in terms of people. The duties of executive housekeeper include making the inventory of the housekeeping store, checking the usage of the items in the daily operation to avoid wastage and operating the department according to financial guidelines.

Concierge 
Concierge Operations elevates property’s marketable value. The major duty of this department is handling guest needs, requests and enquiry. Professional geographical knowledge of the city, fluent speaking with multiple languages and familiar with hotel operations are required to the staff.

Guest Services 
Guest Services Operations manages all uniformed staff in the hotel. The major division of works consists of door attendants, bell persons and the concierge.

Security 
Security Department is responsible to provide guest safety and loss preventions. Its function is aimed to ensure the safety of the guests and their belongings.

Communications  
Communication Department is responsible for management of in-house, quest communications and emergency. It is aimed to guarantee that a comprehensive contact system throughout the operation of the hotel.

How hotels using yield management to maximize their profit?


Yield management is selling rooms and services at the right price, at the right time, to the right people. This system measures constrained and unconstrained demand over a period of a few years in order to examines the restrictions such as length of stay, non refundable rate, or close to arrival. As a result, the hotel can determines the demand for a particular room each night in order to maximize the return.
